or Terrorist
Definition -
Individuals who do not receive permission
to
be on premises or who are in possession of a weapon on premises.
Procedures
- The
staff
member who spots the intruder will ask if assistance is needed.
Communicate
in a non-threatening manner. Ask unauthorized or unidentified
visitor/intruder
to report to Front Desk.
- If
the
intruder refuses to report to the Front Desk or you suspect possession
of
a weapon, notify the Director and give a description and the
location.
- If
the
intruder is in a classroom, the teacher will seek assistance from the
Front Desk.
- The Director will assess the situation,
initiate a lock down and call 911, if
applicable or call the County Office Hotline at 764-7911.
- All
media
inquiries should be referred to the Director.
If a hostage situation develops, use these
additional
procedures:
- Gather
all facts regarding the situation.
- Keep
notes on the times and any communication from the hostage taker and
other
witness information.
- No
one
should initiate communication with hostage taker. If communication
becomes
necessary, restrict it to one person, if possible, until law
enforcement
takes over.

Procedures
- Identify
the potential threat to the school, if possible. If a transport vehicle
is involved, look for an insignia or the chemical codes of the
potential
health threats being routed. Report the type of hazardous threat when
reporting
the incident if it is known.
- Report
important information to the emergency responders, such as color and
hazard
symbol that may appear on the vehicle or container.
- Call
911 to report the incident and to provide appropriate details of the
incident,
including fires, fumes or other unusual conditions.
- Take
necessary steps to protect lives.
- Inform
the students and staff of what is occurring.
- Decide
with the Fire Department personnel whether to shelter in place or to
evacuate
the school building and/or campus.

Tornados/Severe Thunderstorm
Definition - Tornado Watch: Conditions are
favorable
for a tornado or severe weather. Notify staff, but take no action.
Tornado Warning: A tornado has been sighted.
Take
shelter immediately.
Procedures
- Announce
a tornado warning or severe thunderstorm by runner or bullhorn.
- Students
should proceed to center area and
assume
a kneeling or sitting position, with their heads down and their hands
covering
their heads.
- Students
in unsafe locations will go to their assigned locations at the
direction
of their teacher.
- Silence
is extremely important so that necessary directions may be heard in
safe
areas.
- Keep
the windows and doors closed.
- In
the
event of a tornado sighting, the secretary will contact 911.
- The
all
clear signal will be a verbal command by Director.
- All
media
inquiries should be referred to the Director.

Procedures
- Announce for all students to assume
the
duck, cover and hold position.
- Protect
your face and head from flying debris.
- Stay
in this position until the tremor or debris ceases.
- Evacuate
immediately if directed, to a safe zone.
- Contact
911 and provide details of the damage and emergency needs.
- Do
not
light any matches or candles if an earthquake occurs.
- All
media
inquiries should be referred to the Director.

Bomb or Bomb Threat
Definition - An explosive device either
present or
alleged
to be present in the school or on the premises which may or may not
have exploded.
Procedures
- Call
911
- Evacuate
the building and move to a designated area.
- While
evacuating the building have the staff look for unusual devices and
listen
for suspicious noises. Report suspicious items to the Director.
Do
not
touch anything that looks suspicious.
- The
school
will be searched by law enforcement with assistance from school
personnel
according to a plan developed by the school and law enforcement.
- Stay
in your designated areas until you are told it is safe to return to the
building.
- All
media
inquiries should be referred to the Director.
If a bomb explosion occurs, use these additional
procedures:
- Determine
the location and extent of the explosion.
- Call
911 and provide details
- Assist
with any wounded or injured.
- Secure
the area until authorities arrive.
- If
an
explosion occurs prior to an evacuation, students should seek cover and
cover their heads. Stay in this position until the flying debris ceases.

Procedures
If
the
building needs to be evacuated, follow the fire drill procedures with a
verbal announcement by runner or bull horn followed by manually tipping
the fire alarm. If there is an emergency due to an electrical failure,
make
a verbal announcement by runner or bull horn. A visual check of all
school
areas will be conducted by the Director, and other staff.

Disease
The Director will be aware of all the school
policies
and procedures relating to handling of body fluids and other OSHA
guidelines. In general, the Director will appropriately incorporate the
following
into the school's Crisis Management Plan.
Health Risk through Contact with Body Fluids
The body fluids of all persons will be considered to
contain
potentially infectious agents (germs). The term bodily fluids includes blood, semen, drainage from
scrapes
and cuts, feces, urine, respiratory secretions (e.g., nasal discharge)
and
saliva.
Procedures
- Remove the students and
unnecessary
school personnel
from
the immediate area of the spilled body fluids
- When possible, persons will avoid direct contact with
body
fluids.
- Gloves are recommended when direct hand contact with body fluids
is anticipated.
- Gloves should be disposed of appropriately. Hand and other
affected skin araeas will be washed with soap and warm.

- The faculty head will contact the
appropriate district
staff
about the incident. They will determine if hazardous exposure
has
occurred and the appropriate steps to be taken.

Students/Civil Disturbances
Definition - An
incident that
disrupts or has the potential
to disrupt the orderly function of the school.
Procedures
- Report the disruption and the
location.
- If the misbehavior is
not serious, attempt to have the
students
return to their normal school routine. If there is a widespread student
walkout, assign administrative security.
- Call 911 if the
disruption continues or injury occurs.
- If the behavior could result in
injury or further disruption, try to get the disruptive students or
their leaders isolated from the general student body. Initiate a
lock down, if necessary.
- Determine what disciplinary action to take, if any. Notify
the parents.
- The Director and the Team Leaders will discern the basis for the
problem and take action to address those concerns.
- A written record of all the above steps
should be made
by
school personnel.

Definition - Student runs away

hours or is abducted form the school campus.
Procedures
- The staff will notify the
Director and
provide a
description
of the student and other pertinent information.
- If an abduction occurs, go to lock
down,
account for
all
students.
- Call 911
- Contact the parents/guardians.
- If a student is running away, follow them,
if possible.
- Notify the classroom teachers of the
student's absence.
- Provide a description and picture of the
student to law
enforcement, including the clothing worn that day. If an abduction
occurs,
provide a description of the abductor(s) and the vehicle(s).
- Document the incident in writing, including
the
pertinent
times.
- All media inquiries should be referred to
the Director.

Injury, Illness, or Allergic
Reaction
Definition - An emergency
involving an accident, allergic
reaction, sickness or injury, in which the immediate concern is to aid
the
affected person.
Procedures
- Contact the Director and stay
with the
affected
person.
- Administer First Aid. Handle bodily
fluids
appropriately
(see Communicable Diseases).
- Disperse the crowd, if necessary.
- Contact 911 as necessary to protect the
safety and
well-being
of the individual(s) involved.
- Contact the parent(s)/guardian(s) and notify
them of any
decision
to transport the student for emergency medical care.
- Inform the staff or students as needed.
Restore calm
and
move everyone not involved away from the scene.
- Send medical emergency information to the
hospital with
the victim.
- Complete an accident form and document.
- If a criminal act has caused injuries,
determine who
was
involved, identify witnesses, remove them to a secure area. Keep
witnesses
separated. Keep the scene secure. Do not disturb possible evidence.
- Follow the crisis response plan for
necessary
counseling
or other trauma reduction activities.

delays or changes in the itinerary.

- Cellular phones should be carried on all
out-of-town trips.
- In case of an accident, contact 911 and the
school.
